The annual conference of Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI) continues to evolve and now attracts thousands of dementia specialists from over 100 countries around the world. Hosted with a different Alzheimer association around the world each year, in 2017, the conference will be hosted with Alzheimer’s Association Japan. The conference is one of the world’s largest and most important conferences on Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Featuring a range of international keynote speakers and a high standard of scientific and non-scientific content; combined, this makes it the optimum setting to learn about the latest advances in the treatment, care and management of dementia. The ADI annual conference is proud to be the longest running international conference on dementia, and is an opportunity to bring together all those with an interest; including, researchers, clinicians, people with dementia, family members, care professionals, scientists, researchers and staff and volunteers of Alzheimer associations. This unique, multi-disciplinary event is a favourite amongst leaders in the field and is a perfect opportunity to share and learn from one another.
Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI)
ADI is the international federation of Alzheimer associations around the world, in official relations with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and in consultative status with the United Nations (UN). With over 80 members each member is the Alzheimer association in their country who support people living with dementia and their families. There are over 46 million people estimated to be living with dementia around the world and this number is set to reach 131.5 million in 2050. ADI’s vision is prevention, care and inclusion today, and cure tomorrow.
Alzheimer’s Association Japan (AAJ)
Alzheimer’s Association Japan is an organisation operated by people with dementia, their families and professionals with 47 chapters, one in each of its 47 prefectures throughout Japan. Many medical specialists as well as professional carers are also members and provide AAJ with their skills and experiences. Japan is a super ageing society with the longest life expectancy and the highest elderly population ratio in the world. There will be seven million people living with dementia by 2025. AAJ is working hard to build a dementia friendly society with the government, and other dementia related organisations. According to the World Alzheimer’s Report 2015, almost half of the total population of people with dementia are living in Asian countries. The 2017 conference in Japan will be a great chance to work together to build a dementia friendly world.
